Delgani’s opens its 12th season with a celebration of American voices in music, spanning culture, time, and place. The first half features the evocative and otherworldly “Journey of the Horizontal People” by Diné composer Raven Chacon, alongside music by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson and Philip Glass. The program concludes with Amy Beach’s Piano Quintet, a masterpiece of American Romanticism, featuring pianist Maria Garcia.

Delgani teams up with Laura Rebolloso, acclaimed singer and leona player, to celebrate the music of Mexico. In unique arrangements for string quartet, Delgani performs Rebolloso’s original compositions and showcases the traditional Son Jarocho of her native Veracruz. The program also features music by Silvestre Revueltas, Arturo Márquez, and Gabriela Ortiz, in a layered exploration of Mexico’s diverse heritage.

Delgani presents a winter program of dark textures and radiant light. Tomáš Svoboda’s 12th Quartet, composed in Portland and recorded by Delgani, opens the program alongside Shostakovich’s coiled and kinetic 7th Quartet. The program concludes with the warm sonorities of Brahms’s String Sextet No. 1, featuring violist Charles Noble and cellist Pansy Chang of the Oregon Symphony.

Delgani previews new quartets, each inspired by a different species of tree, in collaboration with composer Kimberly Osberg’s 2027 commissioning project: Year of Trees. The new works are framed by Dvorak’s “In Deepest Forest Glade” and his lush and vigorous Quartet No. 13, highlighting springtime growth and rejuvenation.

Delgani closes the season with the music of Beethoven, who left behind an unparalleled legacy for string quartet upon his death 200 years ago. Three contrasting quartets form the program: the lyrical Op. 18/3, the radical Op. 95 “Serioso,” and the jubilant Op. 59/3, offering a journey through Beethoven’s transformative and immortal voice.
